Lymington Croquet Club was established in 1995 due to the efforts of Miss Barbara Spooner. It started by playing in a private garden, but was soon provided by the Town Council with a lawn at Woodside Recreation Ground, south of Woodside Gardens.
The Club is run by a Committee on behalf of its members and our AGM is held in November. Woodside offers a delightful setting for our games of croquet, with open views across the playing fields to woods beyond. The croquet lawn has recently been levelled, drained and re-seeded by the Council and is now a first class facility. There is an annual subscription to belong to the club which for the 2024 season is £70. |
Parking is available in both Rookes Lane and Ridgeway Lane.

Playing Timetable
Each week there are ‘Turn up and play sessions’ for Golf and Association Croquet. Any member can come along and be sure of an informal game. At other times, members are able to book the lawn.

PLEASE check the LCC Calendar to see if there are any visitors or special events taking place on a specific date which may cause the lawn to be unavailable or closed. If nothing is shown on the calendar, the lawn is free to play as the sessions shown in the Weekly Playing Timetable.
Competitions and annual activities
The Club organizes competitions among members during the year. These are particularly popular providing not only an opportunity to show your croquet skills but also providing an informal social occasion.

What We Wear to Play
Players wear casual clothes for club sessions and competitions, with completely flat-soled shoes (bowling shoes) to protect the lawn.
Woodside Recreation Ground can be cool when it is windy and it is advisable to bring a warm jumper and waterproof jacket at all times!

Equipment
The Club owns a small number of mallets of various weights and lengths for new members to use until they know what type they prefer.
Once you are sure that you enjoy the game, it is a good idea to have your own mallet, which will be the right height and weight for you.
These can be bought from the Croquet England shop and currently cost from around £225 upwards.
There is no storage space for personally-owned mallets at the pavilion and members normally take their mallet home with them.
The Club provides the hoops, balls and other equipment, which needs to be set out by the members who are playing at any particular time and put away securely afterwards.
